ABOUT

Hello friends 👽ྀི My name is Kayla, and I hand knit each OTT Knits piece from home in Tāmaki Makaurau. My extremely patient Mum (love you Mum) helped me learn to knit in 2019 when I decided I wanted a jumper in a very specific shade of neon green (despite having never knitted before) and I haven’t stopped since.

For me, knitting is grounding and creative and sustainable. I love working with colour and creating unusual combinations. I use mostly wool and mohair, and source all of my yarn locally and secondhand. I buy leftover yarn from fellow knitters, inherited collections, unused vintage yarn from decades past, yarn that's been knitted and unravelled - anything I can get my hands on that needs new life. To make the most of it all and ensure nothing is wasted, any scraps leftover after larger pieces like jumpers and cardigans are what make up my smaller accessories.

One of my favourite things about working with unwanted or unused yarn is that it guides what I make, each finished piece is always unique. Handmade knitwear is special, and when loved and cared for, it will last a lifetime. Thank you for visiting ᯓ★
